FTD - HEX CH removed
Hi fellows, hello everyone!
I've done a little patch for FTD mentioned here. It concerns to that unfortunate BTS TEST HEX channel mode (screen 1.12). It's all fixed now, and CH may be entered as ordinary FTD-geek would expect - DECIMAL. Luckily it needed to change only one byte at string-to-integer conversion function call. It seems all calc's can be set aside now, LOL.
Installation here is simple: find & replace "Ftd.app" with a patched one. No vira linked, which can be easily checked by comparing files. No sis installer rebuilt.
Couldn't find anywhere a solution to this obvious obstacle so grabbed disassembler & looked through by myself. This wasn't really hard, as IDA nicely resolves all needed syslib calls
It's not the end however, there's one more "but..." yet. As I got no reply for a week on a local topical board, I share my tiny achievement & kindly ask for help here.
What is all about? I was told that after executing patched version from application panel (or whatever it's called on symbian equipped ME's) you get running the same naughty HEX-app as without patched ver installed . But, if you point Ftd.app file in a file manager and order to execute it, you get what expected - "decimal knowing" carrier lock UI app part.
While you can be sure (almost 100%) that second method executes pointed file, then what is executed while you start app UI interface from system panel? I also know that you can remove mentioned file, or put patched *.rsc 's (btw. thanks for sharing this! great stuff) and get exactly the same app behaviour as right after installing well known OperatorFtdwk39v7.sis extracts. AFAIK symbian-freak installs are resources extracted from 3650 (correct me if wrong pse). I've got acks from two ftd-geeks, got their 6630's, that strange problem exists.
I know FTD apps are generally closely related to system hidden files, but looking through huge 6630's firmware update files didn't really disclosed known, visible app strings. ASCII nor unicode. Besides something looking like an ftd related strings built in (as hidden system files I guess), I see no known texts like "Entered value \n must be in hex." for instance.... Could it be compressed, or what?
Maybe it's just some kinda well formated debug strings - seen some in Ftd.app...
I am just curious where it starts from, when no proper file exists on an FS at all !? Could some of you acknowledge this strange thing? No words abt. this in "FTD All screens" topic...
Hey, maybe I'm just giving false alarm here, and my fellow geeks have just a messy mobile FS's and installed mentioned applications twice in some strange drives or locations... Don't blame my poor knowledge on symbian system, or laugh at me calling me noob. Why? Read below.
The point of this too long paragraph is simple: how to ease execution of patched file, without pointing patched part in file manager first? Maybe some "panel shortcut" editing method. Please, symbian hackers (I know you're here) give a tip in return to my tiny gift. Thanks.
I'm slowly getting to the end. I didn't try to figure out any solution because I don't own any symbian ME, really. My knowledge therefore is poor, and a way of testing my ideas is to email patched files to other pal and wait for report whether anything changed, or I screwed up something again. You can imagine then, I couldn't understand what's wrong if your patched, NOP-ed parts are getting reported again and again as "sorry dude, still no changes"...
I appologize for this far too long & boring speech, probably couldn't make it shorter. Hope didn't do too much mistakes in text. Also I am sorry for writing in english on russian speaking board.
Thanks for your tips, and see ya!

PS: Quick precept on what to patch (if files are deleted from fileshare srv):
Change $10 val byte at $2AF4 offset to $0A. That's all.

Re: nokia 7610
